A T5018 is a T-Slip that is provided to subcontractors in the construction industry detailing how much they have been paid. It is similar to a T4 Slip that reports the amount of employment income that a taxpayer has received.

One of Canada Revenue Agency’s (CRA) strategies to combat the ever-growing underground economy is to require construction businesses to file an annual T5018 return.

All companies, individuals and corporations with construction as their primary business activity are required to file a T5018 annually for each subcontractor they have made payments to in the amount of $500.00 or more.

The CRA uses this information to identify subcontractors that do not file returns, report their full income or are not registered for GST / HST.

If you have any questions on T5018 forms, please give us a call.

As your consultants and advisors, we can provide you with so much more than just bookkeeping. We know that your time is better spent on doing what you’re good at – finding new clients, networking, running or coordinating jobs and projects, or attending meetings. With QuickBooks Online (QBO), we can help you with the other things, the things that have to be done, but take you away from developing your business. There may be times when you can’t get to your computer, but you need to bill a client right away. We can take down your client’s information over the phone and create the invoice directly from your company’s QBO. We can send it to you for a quick review if you’d like, then you can forward the invoice to your client. No need for a review? No problem, we can send it directly to your client from QBO.

Accurate and up-to-date bookkeeping is a key element of running a successful business. You should be able to glance at up-to-date Profits, Losses, and Balance Sheet reports and see if your company is making or losing money. Unfortunately, we have seen it too many times – receipts accumulated in boxes or envelopes over many months and clients not being billed on time. Once the receipts are finally entered to reconcile the bank account for the month, we find a number of receipts missing. Missing receipts cannot be used as a business expense and this also means that the expense was not billed to the client. As your bookkeepers, we enter all expenses monthly and let you know right away if you are missing a receipt or expense. This gives you a chance to locate the receipt or request a copy before too much time has gone by. It also gives you adequate time to bill your client. Without up-to-date entries, reports are inaccurate and do not reflect how your company is doing in real time.
